April showers, May flowers and whatnot!
My spring show season is well underway now (a month later than usual) and I'm headed off to the Midwest for shows in Kansas City, St Louis, Indianapolis and Chicago where I'll show several new mixed media pieces including these two here!

Atlast! After years of building my well-received typewriters, I squeezed in some time to explore other objects I’ve longed to build for years!.In fact I acquired the giant rain-shower head on the payphone piece two years prior to finally having the opportunity to incorporate it.

After constructing the base of the phone out of ULDF (wood composite), I assembled various shower parts, a picture frame and switch covers into this shiny chrome throwback to the history of communication. The light switch where the coin return would normally be, lights up the instruction panel, which includes an old photo of switchboard operators embedded with the word “LISTEN”. Not just a piece of art, but a directive to better living!

I finally took on the old car radio from my 1967 Mustang! The frame is ULDF (wood composite) and plastic and the buttons are all electrical boxes, one of which houses the switch that turns on the ceiling light fixtures as well as the backlighting for the station screen which shows a map of a good portion of Route 66 embeded with the word “LISTEN”. Lastly, a bright orange colored pencil works as the indicator! Like many of my mixed media pieces, this one will command the room and the conversation therein.
