Happy Octobertime!Let me just dive right in with my latest mixed media wall sculpture, "Imagination"! Many of you may recognize my typewriter series of assemblage pieces and for this one I ventured further into space and deeper into the carnival in my head to add even more depth and energy to the piece. I am thrilled with the concept of the layered sheets and the additional 3D elements bursting beyond the boundaries of the paper. This one sold at the very first show it was displayed at, but I very much look forward to exploring this theme further in the near future. Before I share some new artwork, I want to plant a seed about an upcoming project that is very dear to my heart. "Learning to Drive" |
|
Many of you know that my 'other day job' is as a producer and cinematographer in the film industry and "Learning to Drive" is a story I've been developing into a feature length screenplay off and on over the past 15 years. It is inspired by my ever-evolving relationship with my brother Andy, who has Down's Syndrome. This past summer I was prompted to create a condensed version of the script to produce as a short film and I have begun pre-production on the project, to shoot in February of next year.
While such a subject is not new to cinema (Rainman, I Am Sam, and my personal favorite - What's Eating Gilbert Grape), what makes our project unlike anything before is that we are especially intent on portraying Andy's point of view, rather than my own. This is both challenging and exciting and I look forward to sharing this with the world next year. In the meantime, in order to fund such an ambitious venture in such a way that we can produce it as I believe the project deserves, I will be embarking on a crowd-funding campaign in the near future. Since so many people know me for my fine art at www.yesitsapainting.com, I will be leveraging my artwork into the crowd-funding 'perks' as they are called in order to hopefully promote a successful campaign. I will be starting a blog about the project shortly and will share the details of the film and the production here soon and I hope you will check it out and find yourself excited to join us on this swell adventure! In the meantime - |
